Watchdog says draws protocol on Twitter’s administrative offence
MOSCOW, Feb 21 (PRIME) -- The communications service has drawn an administrative offence by Twitter for non-submission of information on localization of Russian users’ data, and a commissioner will now decide on responsibility, a watchdog spokesperson told reporters on Thursday.
“The protocol was drafted in the presence of a Twitter representative. The document will be handed over to a commissioner in the period set by the Administrative Code for a decision on punishment by warning or a fine,” the spokesperson said.
The authority asked Twitter and Facebook in December 2018 to provide it with information on localization of databases of Russian users in the country. In January, the service opened an administrative procedure against the U.S. companies for their failure to give an unambiguous answer about obligatory localization of personal data.
The watchdog’s Director Alexander Zharov said earlier in February that the service could demand the companies localize databases or impose a fine.
